چکیده
ObjectivePrevious studies showed that patients with Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) have poor quality of life (QoL). This study explored the explicative factors QoL at time diagnosis and monitored changes over two years follow-up.MethodsWe evaluated 107 participants a Seizure (PNES), every 6 months for 24 months. Quality (QoL) was using QOLIE-31 SF-36 scales (respectively specific generic QoL). Positive evolution defined by increase in score overall sub-scale from baseline to last interview patient. We also collected each patient data on psychiatric dimensions (childhood abuse, history traumatic events, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, alexithymia, dissociation), clinical seizures number mental health consultations.ResultsAccording SF-36, depression (p ≤ 0.001), anxiety < alexithymia dissociation 0.004) were related diagnosis. According (mental physical), PTSD significantly associated 0.05). The or co-occurrence epilepsy did not influence QoL. linked consultations issues = 0.02).SignificancePost-traumatic (PTSD, comorbidities (depression disorders) seem alter people PNES. current suggests care improves

Quality of life Differences between Patients with Epilepsy and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizure
Background: Epilepsy is a neurological disease that is associated with recurrent seizures that can be caused by abnormal brain activity. Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES)have psychological bases and their clinical behavior is similar to epileptic attacks. Both patients with seizure and PNES often suffer from psychiatric problems. The aim of this study was to compare the quality of life ...
متن کاملPatient and caregiver quality of life in psychogenic non-epileptic seizures compared to epileptic seizures
PURPOSE Little is known about the effect of psychogenic non epileptic seizures (PNES) to caregiver quality of life (QOL), particularly as it compares to epileptic seizures (ES). We sought to characterize this effect and identify its determinants. METHODS The study population comprised of 126 ES and 33 PNES patients who underwent video EEG monitoring along with 48 and 18 caregivers respectivel...

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) need to be differentiated from epileptic seizures as the management varies for both. Presence of tongue biting, falling and urinary incontinence favors a diagnosis of epileptic seizures. We report two children with features suggestive of epileptic seizures that were eventually diagnosed as PNES with the help of video-EEG monitoring.
